Tolaba ul Kulliyat il Mumenoon

All Good Things Come To An End..

Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character

So, after one full hectic day of back-breaking to and fro from one corner of the ground to another, it was a relief to find out that our work was really appreciated. Keep those appreciation coming in guys, it really helps. Especially when its in form of finance (no reservations about that).

Okay, lets get on to summarize the event (Super Six)- a one day, knockout event of 5/6 overs per match with 7 member team.

First round of matches were between weak versus weak and strong versus strong teams, fixtures approved with common consent of the Captains of respective teams.

League coordinators were Huzefa Calcuttawala and Ali Shyamwala. They put on a brilliant show and led Tolaba Ul Kulliyat Il Mumenoon to successful completion of second project on the occassion of Syedna’s 98th Milad Mubarak.

Janab Amil Saheb of Coimbatore flagged off the proceedings at 7 AM in the morning on March 8th, 2009 at the PSG Tech Inner (Hostel) Grounds. Ground for the day was sponsored by Juzer Sutterwala (a player of Super Star CC), whilst lunch for all teams and audiences was sponsored by Aziz Modi, Shabbir Sutterwala et al.

The first round was a series of close matches (as expected)-

1st match between Jawan Oldies (led by Zoaib Partapurwala, 60runs) and Fight Club (led by Hakeem Lakdawala, 86runs) which the latter won by 16 runs with NRR of 3.2 batting first.

2nd match between DingDongCC (led by Hussain DingDong, 91 runs) and Star Sporting Club (led by Huzefa Jodhpurwala) which the former won with NRR of 7.2 fielding second.

3rd match between CBE Super Kings (led by Shabbir Jodhpurwala, 66 runs) and CBE Dare Devils (led by Juzer Jodhpurwala, 70 runs) which the latter won batting second.

4th match between Burhani Badshahs (led by Murtaza Delhiwala, 82 runs) and The Dhinojwalas (led by Mulla Ali Akbar Gheewala, 85 runs) which the latter won batting first with NRR of 0.8.

5th match between Super Star CC (led by Mustansir Rohawala, 51 runs) and Vande Mataram (led by Huzefa Madraswala, 50 runs) which the former won with NRR of 0.2 batting first in what seemed to be a fixed match (but don’t take my word for it. I’m prone to error as much as anyone else).

The best losing team from the first round was Vande Mataram with just -0.2  NRR.  So, they faced DingDongCC and beat the hell out of them (85 to 57 runs). Just opposite to the first round (which was a string of close encounters), the second was a string of forgetful matches: Super Star CC beat the Dhinojwalas comprehensively 97 to 29 runs whilst Fight Club (without much of a fight for entire game) were muscled out by CBE Dare Devils 54 to 110 runs.

And that was that of the forgetful second round, with the best losing team being DingDong CC. I’m sure they all must have cursed their luck to have qualified for the next round, as they faced the mighty CBE Dare Devils who were the best team of the first two rounds based on NRR. DingDong CC were ping ponged all over the place, as they were left covering their faces in shame as the stunning display from not-yet-married-but-about-to-get-married CBE Dare Devils team shreds their belief to splits. Next up was 2nd best team of the tournament so far- Super Star CC- up against the third best team- Vande Mataram. No surprises here, the second seed got through as expected, easily.

The stage was all set. Two undefeated teams of the tournament up against each other. It was the baap of all matches– Junior versus Seniors- CBE Dare Devils versus Super Star CC. Yet-to-be-married versus married-but-going-strong. After an enthralling display of individual brilliance from both sides (Mustan bhai, Huzefa Baxa, Huzefa Vakharia and others), the match swung in the favour of the Super Star CC because of their excellent bowling display. They won the tournament comfortably by 24 runs.

The best bowler of the tournament- Mohammed Gadli, who managed to pull off a hat-trick in the first round match. Best batsmen of the tournament- Mustansir Rohawala (Captain of the Championship winning team), smashed 121 runs in a mere 44 balls of 4 innings. Other notable performances were from Huzefa Vakharia of Super Star CC (hit 8 sixes in 30 balls overall), Murtaza Imani of Vande Mataram and Huzefa Baxa (88 of 33 balls, 3 innings).

Upon winning the Championship, there was visible joy among the Super Star CC players, as it meant they effectively proved that their Juniors, though more energetic, were still a step behind a more experienced them. Each of the finalists were presented Mementos by Mulla Saheb of Coimbatore. And the Championship trophy, of course, went to the Champions – Super Star CC.

Everybody on a championship team doesn’t get publicity, but everyone can say he’s a champion.
